Network Engagement Volunteer
Good Things Foundation
Network Engagement Volunteer
An exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic social change charity, working at scale across the UK and internationally.
Remote - UK
Hours of work
3 hours per week
Our amazing volunteer team has been supporting our work since 2021.
For some volunteers, this has given them experience working with a national charity, and built work skills, but every single one of them has helped us in our mission to fix the digital divide and contributed to our movement to help everyone benefit from digital.
Good Things Foundation delivers our services through the wonderful National Digital Inclusion Network. The network is made up of thousands of community partners in the UK, all working to tackle digital exclusion by delivering data, devices and digital skills training. Our Network reaches deep into communities to help people gain the support and skills they need to change their lives and overcome social challenges by using digital.
We are looking for enthusiastic people to help us keep in touch with those community partners. This volunteering role is crucial in helping us to understand the environment that our partners are working in, the issues they are facing and keeping them up to date with how we can support them in their work.
About the role
What will I be doing?
The role is phone and email based, and will start in February. You will be volunteering from home independently in your own time, so can be based anywhere in the UK. We require you to use your own phone to make calls, but will provide you with a Good Things Foundation email address.
We want to make sure as many of our partners as possible are aware of the training and resources that are available to them, so you will be phoning them to promote grant opportunities, talking to them about training or networking opportunities, or carrying out surveys.
You will have some great conversations with people doing extraordinary things in their communities!
How much time do I need to commit?
We would like you to commit to a minimum of 3 – 6 months volunteering for us – though we hope you will stay longer! Usually we would want you to be able to volunteer for a minimum of 3 hours a week but this is very flexible, and you can volunteer any time during our office hours (9 to 5). We also understand that people live busy lives and if you can’t volunteer for us every week, that is not a problem.
What experience and skills do I need?
The most important thing for us is that you have the time and commitment to volunteer for us, and the enthusiasm that the role will need. You need an interest in digital inclusion work, or be willing to learn more.
As our volunteers talk to people over the phone and volunteer from home, we are also looking for people who:
- Are confident speaking on the phone and have great verbal communications skills
- Are good at organising their own time and working independently
- Have a good basic knowledge of managing emails and inputting data into spreadsheets as these are the tools that we will be using
Good Things Foundation is the UK’s leading digital inclusion charity. Our mission is a world where everyone can benefit from digital. Through our network of hyperlocal partners, we are supporting people and communities to overcome some of the most pressing social challenges they are facing through digital.
Since 2010, we’ve helped over 3.5 million people to improve their lives using digital, driving positive outcomes such as employment, reducing loneliness, supporting basic digital skills, and health and wellbeing.
Good Things Foundation is a social change organisation with a mission to ensure that everyone benefits from digital. We live the change we are seeking to achieve and encourage applications from diverse backgrounds. Our goal is also to be truly reflective of the makeup of society and we actively welcome difference.
