Job Highlight

The role will support the development and testing of advanced analytical and visualization tools that bring together complex procurement data into clear, decision-ready views.

About the Group

The Procurement Group (PG) leads UNOPS’ effort to enable public procurement to be a catalyst for sustainable development. Based in Copenhagen but connecting all parts of the organization that contribute to sustainable procurement, we articulate the organization’s sustainable procurement practice strategy and provide thought leadership to position UNOPS with its partners. We foster innovative solutions for responsible supply chains, manage critical data and systems, drive digital innovation, develop systems to support effective purchasing, and drive our suppliers’ responsibility. Furthermore, PG is actively developing capacities for data-driven decision-making and foresight to enhance procurement outcomes. PG enables the operationalisation of the public procurement principles. It aims to bridge the gap between policy and implementation, and supports UNOPS teams worldwide through strategic advice, organization-wide knowledge-sharing, capacity building, insightful reporting and managerial oversight of UNOPS procurement activities. We promote procurement that not only delivers value for money, fairness and transparency, but also empowers institutions, supports local economies, and reduces environmental impact. Working across sectors and contexts, PG helps ensure that public procurement is used as a powerful lever to drive equitable development and long-term impact.

Job Specific Context

Public procurement can play a powerful role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This Procurement Intern position within the Procurement Group’s Data & Analytics Team offers a high-impact opportunity to apply digital skills, including data analytics, visualization, and responsible use of artificial intelligence, to strengthen how procurement information is turned into actionable insights.

The Data and Analytics Team within PG leverages data to support procurement operations, enable oversight, foster continuous improvement, and strengthen transparency. This includes developing tools, such as dashboards and standardized reporting products, that make procurement information more accessible across the organization, and conducting analyses that identify best practices, highlight areas for improvement, and help mitigate risks.

The team is also responsible for procurement data reporting across UNOPS, including the collation and publication of the UNOPS Purchase for Impact Report and the Annual Statistical Report on UN Procurement (ASR) on behalf of the UN System (published at www.ungm.org/asr).

The team is continuously strengthening how procurement data is consolidated, analysed, and presented to better support decision-making. This includes working with multiple data sources and indicators to identify trends and improve the consistency and usability of reporting. The intern will support this work through data preparation, analysis, visualization, and testing of new or improved data tools and processes, including the responsible use of automation and AI-enabled approaches where appropriate, under guidance and review.

Role Purpose

The Procurement Intern – Data & Analytics will support the Procurement Group’s efforts to strengthen data-driven decision-making by improving the accessibility, quality, and usability of procurement data. The role contributes to the development of analytics products, dashboards, and automation/AI-supported workflows that provide timely insights into procurement performance, compliance, risks, and opportunities. Through this work, the intern will support continuous improvement in how procurement data is collected, analyzed, visualized, and used across the organization.
