The Freecycle is a non-profit organization that organizes a network of gifting groups aimed at diverting reusable goods from landfills. It provides a worldwide online registry and coordinates the creation of local groups and forums for individuals and non-profits to offer and receive free items for reuse or recycling. The Network is made up of thousands of groups with millions of members around the world. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer and its membership is free. The network was established as a project of RISE, Inc., a nonprofit corporation that promotes waste reduction in Tucson, Arizona.
