WHO WE ARE

DoSomething is a thirty year old nonprofit fueling young people to change the world. These young activists have made a real difference from donating over 1 million jeans to homeless youth; to over 4,600 young people powering the petition that compelled Apple to create emojis representing people of color; and providing 585,965 menstrual products to achieve gender equity! On top of all that, DoSomething has registered 365,000 young people to vote and claim our democracy since 2018, with our voter turnout rate, above the national average, at 62 percent.

THE ROLE

OVERVIEW
In June 2024, DoSomething launched its next-generation DoSomething.org platform. Built atop Sanity CMS, React, and DocumentDB and served through AWS infrastructure, it is a nimble platform that we will evolve to meet the full vision for our member journey.

To support the rapid iteration of DoSomething, we’re seeking a dynamic Associate Product Manager who can step in and work quickly with the VP of Product & Engineering, Associate Director of Product Design and Product Owner to wrangle our inbounds into detailed backlog items that drive member outcomes and deep engagement. This is a tactical role, offering the opportunity to learn and engage with a variety of technologies.

Finally, the Associate Product Manager will also perform other tech-adjacent responsibilities that help to drive our vision and fulfill our mission.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Understand and train others on our Product Systems (40%)

  • Learn and understand our product-related systems, including our CMS (SanityCMS), our communications system (Iterable), and other tooling (including Turbovote and EveryAction/Bonterra).
  • Serve as a key point of contact for questions about product functionalities and system operations; train others as needed.
  • Support others as the situation demands; recent past examples include supporting editing CMS content to sharpen our SEO and building e-mailing or SMS journeys in Iterable.

Manage the Product Backlog (50%)

  • Manage inbound requests. We receive incoming requests from three sources: design, internal stakeholders, and members. This produces new designs and concepts, internal stakeholders have their own requests, and members request features. The Associate Product Manager will promptly and systematically document the necessary information, including who needs it, what it is for, and when it is needed.
  • Propose prioritization. Work closely with the Product Owner to prioritize incoming requests into the backlog, considering decisions from the Director of Product Design and VP of Product and Engineering.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including detailed product documents (created in Google Docs), flow charts (created in FigJam) and draft stories (created in Jira) for handoff to the Product Owner. This role is also responsible for maintaining product documentation in Confluence.
  • Ensure logical consistency and thorough test cases in all documentation. Partner with the Product Owner to ensure tickets are sufficiently detailed. Create testable Definitions of done and/or other case details as needed.
  • Share it. Share the status of the collective “big picture” backlog with the organization. This includes generating and sharing release notes into the All Staff Slack channel, representing and sharing updates at recurring internal meetings, and regularly updating individual stakeholders about the status of their requests.

Support Members (10%)

  • Respond to member Helpdesk requests. Our Helpdesk receives a small volume of daily queries, which are triaged across the organization. When items arrive regarding P&E, please respond appropriately.
