At Digital Harbor Foundation, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) fills an essential role focused on championing a strategy and vision for leveraging technology to help communities unlock their full potential and flourish. The CTO will support a portfolio of projects deploying novel, cutting-edge technologies to help solve complex social challenges. By building a comprehensive strategy and leveraging a network of thought leaders across multiple sectors, the CTO will help our projects achieve their ambitious goals and serve as a thought-leader in the broader sector. The ideal candidate for this position has extensive experience supporting multiple aspects of product design and is passionate about building a coalition of technical thought leaders to leverage technology to tackle some of society’s most complex social challenges.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelors in computer science or related field or 8+ years in executive management in an applicable field.
- Experience designing, developing, and deploying digital products.
- Extensive multi-sector experience is ideal.
- Relevant certifications, such as Cyber Security (e.g. CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CISM), Information Technology (e.g., CompTIA A, Cisco CCNA), or Project Management (e.g., PMP, CAPM, Agile).

- Analytical and pragmatic mind to balance big-picture strategy and executing details.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a growing and evolving environment.

- Superb written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience and expertise related to application development, infrastructure optimization, mobile computing, data and analytics. In addition, experience in developing/implementing data governance and enterprise architecture is highly desired.
- Flexible, open-minded, and collaborative mindset.
- Ability to successfully work independently, including managing multiple projects and deadlines and proactively identifying and completing tasks.
- Ability to collaborate on informal and formal team-based projects.
- Ability to act as a strategic thought partner in tandem with the CEO and make recommendations that take into account competing needs and priorities.
- A strong understanding of current technology trends, particularly related to the application of technologies to address social challenges.

Additional Notes
This is a full-time, fully remote with occasional in-person meetings at the Digital Harbor Foundation office as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
Role and Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and manage a strategy for leveraging cutting-edge technologies to solve complex social challenges.
- Help Digital Harbor Foundation recruit projects and social innovators who are interested in using technology to solve the most pressing social challenges.
- Provide comprehensive technology support to Digital Harbor Foundation projects to empower them to achieve their ambitious goals.
- Advise the President & CEO on current technology trends and opportunities and represent Digital Harbor Foundation at external events and in meetings with external stakeholders.
- Translate between strategic thinking and detailed planning, with the ability to manage ambiguous and unstructured problem sets.
- Collaborate across the organization to create the most effective, efficient, and impactful solution that utilizes Digital Harbor Foundation content, systems, tools, and technologies.
- Coordinate with Digital Harbor’s senior leadership team to ensure full use of Digital Harbor systems and infrastructure.
- Find opportunities for external engagement that demonstrate Digital Harbor Foundation’s thought leadership.
Technology & Data Management
- Champion a vision and strategy for Digital Harbor Foundation’s internal technology infrastructure.
- Directly manage the Manager of Technology Systems, who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Digital Harbor Foundation’s technology infrastructure.
- With input from Digital Harbor Foundation’s Board of Directors, design and deploy a comprehensive set of technology policies.
- Design and deploy internal systems that support the work of Digital Harbor’s Impact Studio, a shared services team that provides back office, accelerator, and advisory support to Digital Harbor Foundation projects.
- Ensure that our information architecture is appropriately suited to our needs, including regularly reevaluating the overall needs of each internal team.
- Advises on identifying, purchasing, and implementing new technologies.
- With the support of the Manager of Technology Systems, develop a comprehensive technology training program to ensure all employees are able to fully utilize the technology tools they have access to.
- Oversee all aspects of technology and data risk and compliance, including:
- ensuring that Digital Harbor Foundation’s technology infrastructure and systems are compliant with all applicable laws and regulations;
- managing all aspects of data governance, including data retention and backup policies; and
- building and implementing the appropriate safeguarding for all Digital Harbor Foundation data.
- In collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer, improve operational management systems, processes, and best practices through the use of technology implementation.
- Continuously seek to understand and improve how each end-user interacts with our systems, staying current with industry trends and best practices for designed user experience systems.
- Collaborates with designers to identify opportunities for program data to drive understanding and improve systems and user experiences.

Compensation
Compensation for this full-time position is $140,000 to $185,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
