Washington, DC, USA
Posted 6+ months ago
CommonLit is a nonprofit EdTech organization dedicated to providing high-quality literacy instruction to low-income students and students of color to prepare them for success in college and careers. We operate a free online reading and writing program, www.commonlit.org, that is used by millions of teachers and students worldwide each month. We are a quickly growing team of passionate professionals - many of whom are former teachers. Our team is now over 100 full-time employees spread across ~30 states.
The Opportunity
The Operations Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of our growing remote-first non-profit organization. This person will be managed directly by the Chief People Officer and will collaborate directly with her, in addition to the larger People team, composed of Human Resources, Business Operations, Talent and Legal/Compliance.
In this role, the Operations Coordinator will focus on office management, event planning, and employee engagement. This person can also expect to flex into team-wide special projects, as needed. As we grow, the Chief People Officer and other leaders on the People team are frequently re-assessing, improving and building new systems and processes to better support our staff and team culture.
The ideal candidate is someone who has 2+ years of strong experience in operations and is eager to support the needs of our 100+ person staff through strong customer service, committed to contributing to a world-class employee culture, deeply aligned to our non-profit mission, and excited to work in a fast-paced environment.
While employees are spread across the country and we operate as a remote-first organization, we do have employees working out of our DC office most days of the week. This position requires that applicants be based in the metropolitan Washington, DC region and be willing to travel into CommonLit's D.C. office (located in Eastern Market) to perform duties related to office management 1-2 days per week. In addition, the Operations Coordinator will be responsible for supporting in-person team retreats that take place in the office on occasion (once per month).
