Job Overview

The Senior Graphic Designer will join the creative team for a five-month period. Under the direction of the Head of Design, this role will work collaboratively with the creative team and cross-discipline teams to achieve organizational goals.

LOCATION: Remote in CA/OR/WA, USA

REPORTS TO: Head of Design

SALARY: $40–$45/hour

TYPE: Temporary, full-time (40 hrs/week), non-exempt

Responsibilities

  • Design and produce on-brand design solutions to ensure a consistent and trustworthy brand experience that is unmistakably Common Sense across brand touchpoints.
  • Working with the Head of Design and stakeholders, develop concepts, final design, and production for a wide range of digital and print designs. Projects include: landing pages, publications, collateral, marketing campaigns, curriculum design, social media, advertising, and presentations.
  • Champion the Common Sense Design Principles:
    • Trust: Design to build trust using empathy for our audiences and research to drive decisions.
    • Access: Design to welcome everyone regardless of abilities, education, and socioeconomic background. Design for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Guidance: Empower users to make the best choices for kids.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a complex organization.
  • Use constructive feedback from managers and key stakeholders to improve project outcomes.
  • Apply technical skills and design judgment to complete complex, broad-scope projects.
  • Use systems thinking to create sustainable resources that serve multiple use cases and enable designers and nondesigners to create on-brand communications.
  • Manage and oversee design work from junior team members or contractors.
  • Coordinate with project managers and key stakeholders on strategic plans and project milestones. Stay on track from concept through final production.
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners, vendors, and key stakeholders.
  • Produce innovative solutions to meet project goals despite constraints of cost, time, and marketing needs.
  • Create and follow processes and procedures that enhance speed, quality, efficiency, and output of projects.
  • Contribute to and maintain the Common Sense brand style guide and design assets.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in graphic design.
  • Three-plus years of professional graphic design experience, in-house or with an agency.
  • Proven track record of executing design solutions that follow brand standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of Asana, Figma, Adobe CC (including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat), and Google productivity apps (Drive, Slides, Sheets, Docs) is required.
