Are you passionate about connecting underserved communities with essential resources and building meaningful partnerships across North Carolina?

The position: Code the Dream (CTD), a growing national nonprofit, is hiring a full-time Public Benefits Outreach and Partnerships Lead to expand usage of our public benefits screener among underserved communities throughout North Carolina and strengthen our community partnerships statewide.

About us: Code the Dream creates opportunity that changes lives, builds technology that benefits our communities, and expands access to the skills we need for a more innovative world.

We carry out our mission through CTD Learns, our free code school, and through CTD Labs, where our paid apprentices gain real-world experience building apps for a wide variety of clients, including innovative tools like our public benefits screener.

Like many states, NC has a complex system of public benefits that are intended to help low-income households. But many are only aware of and utilize a small percentage of the programs intended to meet their needs. Developed in collaboration with partners across NC, CTD’s MyFriendBen-NC screener allows families to quickly and easily identify the full range of benefits they may qualify for.

In this position, you will take the lead on developing comprehensive outreach strategies and building high-level partnerships with community organizations, healthcare systems, and social service agencies to ensure our public benefits screener reaches those who need it most. You’ll work to eliminate barriers to accessing public benefits by forging strong relationships with community-based organizations, libraries, health centers, and other entities serving populations most likely to benefit from CTD’s tools.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive outreach strategies to expand usage of CTD’s public benefits screener among underserved North Carolina communities
  • Lead strategic planning for community-based partnerships and relationship development, including analyzing community demographics and needs data to identify priority areas for outreach and evaluating the effectiveness of current initiatives
  • Monitor and respond to user inquiries about the benefits screener, collecting and analyzing feedback to improve our services
  • Work closely with our software development team to address technical issues and maintain ongoing communication with community partners
  • Support the Senior Public Benefits Analyst in implementing data-driven outreach efforts and maintaining relationships with government partners
  • Track outreach activities and partnership development through data dashboards, developing metrics to measure program effectiveness
  • Collaborate with the communications team on data-driven outreach strategies
  • Create and manage email and SMS campaigns for subscribers who have opted in to receive updates about our public benefits resources through contact management systems
  • Lead in-person and digital outreach to lower-income NC communities; present to partners and build relationships with community-based organizations, libraries, and health centers
  • Strengthen existing partnerships through regular communication, develop collaborative agreements, and represent CTD at events/conferences.

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in community outreach, social services, nonprofit work, or related field, with increasing levels of responsibility;
  • Proven track record of building relationships with community-based organizations and working effectively with lower-income populations and under-resourced communities;
  • Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations,
  • Strong public speaking and presentation abilities for both virtual and in-person settings;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to prioritize tasks, work independently but also as a member of a product team, and meet deadlines;
  • Strategic thinking and planning abilities with project management experience;
  • Familiarity with data analysis dashboards, CRM systems, and digital outreach platforms;
  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

It would be great if you also had… (No, we don’t expect you’ll have all / most of these!)

  • Knowledge of public benefits policy, eligibility criteria, and application processes.
  • Familiarity with North Carolina communities and the social service landscape.
  • Experience in strategic planning and program development.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience.

The logistics:

  • This position is specific to North Carolina and requires regular in-person travel within the state to conduct community outreach and maintain partner relationships.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to various communities, including rural and urban areas, is essential.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle are required.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary range for this position is $55,000 to $75,000 annually; compensation also includes generous benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by a number of factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
  • Comprehensive medical benefits. CTD covers 100% of employee health insurance premiums and 50% of premiums for spouse/domestic partner and children.
  • Generous holiday and vacation benefits, and an annual tech stipend.
  • Flexible work setup in a kind, supportive community!
