JOB SUMMARY

We’re already busy prototyping features to offer AI image generation to our users, and are looking to hire engineers to improve both our team’s breadth of experience and bandwidth. This is a creative role that will have lots of input into the features we develop in collaboration with our Product Managers. Our codebase is open source, and our engineering culture is collaborative, kind, and fueled by a growth mindset.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of our engineering team, you will:
- Own projects and build features end to end, working on exciting technical challenges using some of the latest technologies.
- Work with your team, product managers, and curriculum writers to build accessible and engaging user experiences.
- Ship software regularly while maintaining excellent live site availability.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should have strong software engineering experience. We understand that this is a relatively new field, so whether you're a dedicated ML engineer with many years of experience, or you've had to pursue this passion primarily after-hours, please don't hesitate to apply.
We seek candidates who have:
- Passion for our mission of growing access to computer science education
- Experience with building consumer-grade web applications, using languages/frameworks like JavaScript, React, Ruby on Rails, and SQL
- Experience supporting a production high-scale web-based software product or service using cloud technologies like AWS
- Experience working independently on software projects, including the ability to handle ambiguity and limited information to make progress on features.
We value many types of candidate experience with AI, including:
- Experience with commercial, hobby, or open source image generators such as Stable Diffusion, and effective application of techniques including text and image-to-image prompting and inpainting
- Knowledge of mitigating bias and improving safety of image generators,; preferably for educational purposes
- Ability to apply AI models creatively and effectively using commercial and open source solutions
- Familiarity with fine-tuning image models for both safety and to produce custom styles
- Proficiency in ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Finding creative applications of emerging image generation techniques and building effective features around them
- Hosting models at scale and making trade-offs between self-hosting and using existing services
In addition, candidates must:
- Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Pass a pre-employment background check
- Be willing to travel a minimum of two and up to four times per year for team events

Step 2: Technical Interview (1 hour)
Step 3: Interviews with several members of the Code.org team (~ 3 hours)
Step 4: Final Interview (1 hour)

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS PACKAGE
The expected salary range for this position is $126,900 - $162,000. The actual offer will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by relevant business considerations, including the final candidate’s qualifications, years of experience, and skillset.
