Code for Science & Society ("CSS") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We empower communities to work together and build innovative technology for the public good. We are building a global network of communities collaborating across industries to develop shared resources and solve common problems. We believe in the power of people working together to eliminate information silos and advance knowledge. Centralized, private services limit information access, creativity, and free expression. We support communities creating innovative, open, and decentralized applications. We work with these groups to push existing boundaries while supporting inclusive models of community. We build foundational technology that allows data to flow across silos and institutions. To advance our mission, we run three major programs. We develop open learning resources and facilitate collaborations and community-driven projects through our Collaborative Community program. In our Foundational Technology program we build open technology and shared resources to encourage the flow of ideas across domains. We nurture a network of innovative projects to enable communities learn from each other and develop future-facing solutions that empower people through a Sponsored Projects program.
