As Change Machine continues to grow, this position will play a key role in advancing the business and financial strategy required to advance our vision for an equitable economy.

About the Role:

We are hiring a Lead of Finance and Operations. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will lead the company’s finance function and oversee the operations function, ensuring Change Machine has a long-term financial strategy, and highly effective and accurate accounting and reporting. You will also supervise key operations functions including legal & compliance. You will oversee the Senior Lead of Operations and People Experience and work closely with our outsourced accountants and outsourced financial strategist.

Salary/Compensation: $90,000 - 140,000/yr.; Change Machine offers an attractive, competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, and life insurance; a generous 401(k) plan; and flexible schedules.

Your Primary Responsibilities will be:

Finance:

  • Lead the business and financial strategy to support the diversification of the organization’s income, both grant-driven for the mission, and earnings for the social enterprise; which will include a wide-range of activities, from intra-company transactions to the possibility of managing a new corporate governance structure.
  • Supporting outsourced financial strategist consultants in building a multi-year financial plan and underlying business model that supports the organization’s priorities and enhances long-term sustainability.
  • Drive annual budgeting to ensure effective planning and a budget that reflects Change Machine’s strategic priorities. This includes scenario-planning, forecasting and financial needs modeling for organizational growth.
  • Facilitate discussions with the senior leadership team and board of directors including the board finance committee meetings to source input, receive approvals, and answer questions about Change Machine’s business and financial strategy.
  • Work closely with our partnerships team to help develop revenue targets, understand the health of our pipeline, and analyze upcoming risks and opportunities for our business
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage outsourced accountants and financial strategists.
  • Oversee external auditors in the completion of the annual financial statement audits and federal and state tax returns.
  • Lead the accounting team, ensuring there are appropriate structures and strong management in place across all aspects of the accounting function (monthly close, AR/AP, payroll, procurements, etc.) and administration function (contract review and management, reporting, etc.).
  • Manage the performance and growth of Finance team members.
  • Perform additional related responsibilities as assigned by the CEO.

Operations:

  • Ensure Change Machine has the business systems and processes in place (formal and informal) to efficiently and effectively manage the organization’s network, finances, pipeline, and human capital.
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of organizational liabilities and insurance, including review of annual or other insurance policies and securing insurance certificates as needed for events or activities.
  • Oversee purchasing of supplies for the organization, including programming and development initiatives.
  • Support staff organization-wide with all operational matters and compliance issues.

Requirements

  • An experienced leader with 7-10 years in, tech finance, non-profit finance or accounting role and at least three years of experience leading staff.
  • Passionate about social justice and driving equity for others. You understand systems of oppression and power-sharing frameworks.
  • An absolute professional who leads by example, treats people with respect regardless of role, and seeks and gives constructive feedback.
  • Deeply knowledgeable and insightful about finance, accounting, administration and grant reporting.
  • Someone with a successful track record as trusted counsel to executive leadership, management teams and board members.
  • Experienced in the development of accurate, timely, and useful financial reports.
  • Able to identify and employ appropriate technology across the responsibilities of the position; experienced with using financial software programs, preferably Quickbooks.
  • An excellent communicator (in speaking, writing, and listening).
  • Effective working and building trust in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Able to switch seamlessly between self-directed independent work and highly collaborative teamwork.

  • Highly organized with impeccable attention to detail.
  • Eager to be an engaged member in a creative community.
  • Able to handle multiple projects/requests, prioritize and delegate effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Understand Salesforce and Financial-force reporting.
  • Specially trained with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
