The Center for Open Science (COS) is a nonprofit which was founded in 2013 to start, scale, and sustain open research practices that will democratize access to research, improve inclusion of all stakeholders, enhance accountability to research integrity, facilitate the self-corrective process of science, expand transparency and sharing of all research content, and improve research rigor and reproducibility. To meet that objective, COS employs a systems strategy involving technology to make open practices possible and easy, community building to make open practices normative, and stakeholder engagement to make open practices rewarding and required.
COS is seeking a part-time HR Generalist who will support the daily operations of the HR department including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices. The HR Generalist will work closely with the Assistant Director of Human Resources and the Operations Team.

Required skills:

  • Manage talent acquisition process, including recruitment, interviewing, hiring and onboarding of qualified job applicants, and collaborate with managers to understand skills and competencies required for open positions.
  • Assist with administration of payroll and taxes.
  • Manage the off-boarding process including resignation documentation, exit interview, and all checklist items.
  • Manage personnel and associated confidential information.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s systems, including but not limited to, Google Suite, HRIS (Zenefits) and talent management (Lever).

Required experience and/or degree:

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or equivalent experience in related field.
  • At least one year of human resources experience is preferred.
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM-CP a plus.
This is a remote position. COS supports flexibility in work scheduling. Individuals who would like to work outside a 9am - 5pm Eastern Time (ET) schedule must work with their managers to establish core hours of availability. Modifications for different time zones will be considered for team collaboration. Occasional travel is possible for this position, including up to twice per year for organizational meetings, with the potential for other in person events.
