Position Summary: Candid is a nonprofit that provides the most comprehensive data and insights about the social sector. We get you the information you need to do good. Candid currently has an opportunity for a Data Services Lead. The Data Services Lead will work with a team of data experts to deliver valuable data services, insights, and reporting about the social sector to a wide range of external and internal stakeholders every day. This client facing and technical role will help shape the way we deliver data services products to clients. Please note that this job is only for internals and will be open for two weeks.

Position: Data Services Lead

Reporting to: Senior Data Services Manager

Supervises: N/A

Schedule: 35-hour work week, Monday through Friday

Compensation: $64,000 - $100,000 (this range is for the NYC area and will be adjusted for other localities; additionally, factors like skills and experience will be considered).

Location: Remote. In-person attendance is expected twice per year during our annual, weeklong all-staff summits. Additional in-person meeting participation is expected at least once per quarter for senior leaders and at least once per month for the executive team. Staff not located in the NYC area are expected to travel for these meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and oversee the delivery of custom one-time and managed datasets- working with the sales team to scope client needs, consulting on the generation of sales estimates, client communication, design, documentation and delivery of custom data extracts, and post-delivery client support
  • Act as a trusted subject matter expert, providing guidance on complex data questions for clients and internal stakeholders
  • Implement technical initiatives to improve organizational efficiency by designing and implementing standards, automation, and scalable frameworks that enable consistent, high-quality data delivery
  • Design, build, and maintain technical frameworks for our team – enabling us to develop and deliver consistent, high-quality data sets quickly
  • Manage the backlog of data and process improvement opportunities needed to advance our program and offerings
  • Partner with the Senior Data Services Manager and Products in development and assessment of new data product ideas
  • Provide technical leadership/oversight for junior staff that fosters skill development
  • Develop and maintain analytics and monitoring capabilities to assess data quality, coverage, and other metrics, surfacing insights that inform product development and organizational decision-making
  • Take on special projects as assigned

Requirements

  • Detail-oriented yet able to see the big picture and set priorities that align with organizational goals
  • Ability to quickly become versed in Candid’s data definitions and meaning, and guide others in applying this knowledge
  • Experience interpreting complex data requests and designing solutions that balance client needs with technical feasibility
  • Ability to apply various mathematical calculations and statistical techniques to datasets
  • Ability to synthesize large datasets into actionable insights and recommend improvements to internal processes and frameworks
  • Skilled in drafting recommendations and leading efforts to address technical improvement opportunities for the team
  • Advanced ability to write SQL for large relational databases (Transact SQL preferred)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft and BI Technologies – such as SharePoint, Excel Power Pivot, PowerBI/Tableau, SQL Server Management Studio, and SQL Reporting Services tools
  • Proficient in using SQL Server Integration Services and version control tools, including Azure DevOps, to build, maintain and execute large, repeated data extracts
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and to follow technical standards, ensuring consistency and scalability
  • Experience helping a team to develop automated processes to enhance efficiency and consistency
  • Ability to manipulate, package, visualize, present and deliver information to different audiences at an intermediate to advanced level using Excel, PowerBI/Tableau and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to write R, Python and related languages
  • Experience building reporting data models and leveraging CRM systems for client engagement tracking
  • Strong listener - able to take in and understand and respond to the needs of a wide variety of stakeholders with differing levels of technical and/or non-profit knowledge
  • Able to 'translate' business needs to more technically oriented teammates and convey more technical information in business-friendly terms to non-technical stakeholders
  • Professional and polished in communications of all types
  • Comfortable reaching out to solve problems and enjoys working cross-team
  • Brings a sense of urgency and accountability to client engagements and team deliverables
  • Knowledge of Non-profit Data or the non-profit sector
  • Master’s degree in technical subject, business, economics, math, accounting, or similar subjects with demonstrated successful completion of quantitative and database related courses or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Certifications in Excel PowerPivot, SQL, SSIS or common BI tools would be preferred
  • Works comfortably and competently under minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to perform other duties and special projects as needed/requested.
