Blue Star Recyclers is an award-winning 501(c)(3) social enterprise based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Since 2009, our mission is providing ethical electronics recycling as a way to create local jobs for people with developmental disabilities; a workforce facing over 80% unemployment. The jobs we create reduce dependence upon government benefits and create new taxpayers and consumers who now contribute to local economies in Southern Colorado. To date, Blue Star Recyclers has created 21 new local jobs (17 for adults with developmental disabilities), recycled 3 million pounds of electronics, established recycling programs in 4 other Colorado communities, held over 100 community and employer recycling events, raised over $30,000 for other area charitable organizations, schools and clubs, and donated over 2,000 paid employee hours in support of public education, community recycling events, industry legislation, and workforce advocacy for developmentally disabled adults.
