Legal Assistant

Remote Type: Fully Remote

Reports to: General Counsel

Position Type: Part-time

Direct Reports: N/A

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Objective

Legal Assistant supports Benetech by reviewing and negotiating Data Privacy Agreements (DPA’s) before Benetech signs them with schools, school districts and other institutions in order to protect personally identifiable information (PII) of Bookshare users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responds to inquiries from schools, school districts and other institutions requesting that Benetech execute a DPA
  • Sends an appropriate template (from among our templates) to the requesting institution or reviews the DPA proposed by such institution
  • Compares the DPAs we receive to our template,
  • Follows the guidance in our DPA “playbook” to determine of the language is acceptable
  • Develops a consistent set of parameters for acceptable agreement content, and
  • Identifies any issues or wording that require legal review by the General Counsel.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Core Competencies

Required:

  • Proficiency with verbal and written English communication
  • Good writing skills
  • Excellent attention to details
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently with little direction
  • Skilled in using Excel, SharePoint, DocuSign, Adobe, MS Office Suite

Preferred:

  • Undergraduate bachelor's degree
  • Familiarity with MS Sharepoint®
