About Ámaxa

Ámaxa is a nonprofit empowering high school students (ages 14–18) from around the world to create meaningful, measurable change. Since launch, more than 240 students from 48 countries have applied to our 100% remote program, where they join small teams, guided by trained undergraduate coaches, to complete unique projects with one of our 9 global nonprofit partners or original initiatives. We believe the ability to make an impact should never be limited by income or geography.

Our nonprofit partners are based in Palestine, Uganda, and Liberia, and our initiatives focus on mental health first aid, support for LGBTQ+ artists, access to feminist literature across ages, and combatting climate change through youth initiatives.

The Role

We’re seeking a Director of High School Cohorts to join Ámaxa’s volunteer leadership committee in a fully remote, long-term role. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of Ámaxa’s core program and ensure every student has a personalized, high-impact experience.

As Director of High School Cohorts, you will:

  • Oversee and support our team of undergraduate Program Coaches, ensuring they are equipped to guide student teams.
  • Lead continuous program improvement with a strong emphasis on listening to and integrating student feedback.
  • Organize remote events—from speaker sessions with inspiring leaders to community-building events for students to connect with one another.
  • Partner closely with the Director of Ambassadors, who leads individualized programming for students continuing with Ámaxa beyond their first cohort.
  • Play a key role in advancing our new vision of making Ámaxa’s program as individualized as possible, ensuring every student receives 1:1 support and opportunities tailored to their interests.
  • Assist in reviewing student applications and conducting student interviews

Who We’re Looking For

This role is a great fit if you are:

  • Passionate about youth empowerment, education, and social impact.
  • A strong communicator and community builder.
  • Excited by program design and iteration, with a knack for making experiences better through feedback and creativity.
  • Organized and comfortable coordinating across time zones.
  • Interested in a long-term volunteer leadership role (with no fixed end date).

Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply, as well as early-career professionals looking to grow their leadership and nonprofit management experience.

Commitment

  • Long-term volunteer role (~10 hours/week).
  • 100% remote, flexible schedule.

Why Join Ámaxa?

  • Join a global movement of young changemakers.
  • Play a leadership role in shaping an innovative, fast-growing nonprofit.
  • Gain meaningful experience in program leadership, youth development, and nonprofit strategy.
