Product Strategy Internship, Skylight Team

Who You Are:

Are you interested in honing your user research skills while learning about cutting-edge developments in technology to address illegal fishing? Do you have a passion for applying technology to do good in the world? If so, an internship on the Skylight team at AI2 may be the perfect opportunity. The Skylight team is looking for an intern to research a project that takes a system of systems approach using both remote sensing and under-water assets to relay relevant information to law enforcement in near-real time, as well as providing the potential to intercept and collect additional actionable information. Start dates will be determined based on your availability, will be 12 weeks in duration.

Your Next Challenge:

Skylight is provided at no-cost to more than 40 countries and more than 100 government agencies around the world. We are looking for a highly motivated intern to directly contribute to the strategic direction of Skylight for use as in cueing under-water assets. Project details:

  • Interview project participants (Thayer-Mahan, OceanAero, Skylight, NOAA, Schmidt Future, OceanKind)
  • Identify challenges, gaps, and opportunities for the cost-effective application to combat Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing (IUUF) covering three aspects: technology, operations, and financial
  • Make recommendations for potential future projects to advance a system of systems approach using remote sensing
  • Make recommendations that inform Skylight’s product strategy for use as a cueing tool for targeting under-water assets to address illegal fishing.
  • Over the course of your time at AI2, you will build your resume and leave an impact on AI2 and the world.

  • Strong communication skills to engage with agencies, foundations, and NGOs
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to break down complex information to formulate key

What You’ll Need:

  • Students late in their program (juniors, seniors, or masters students) with a strong academic record.
  • Successful past employment, internships or volunteer experience in a customer- or partner-facing role is a bonus.
  • A passion for ocean health and applying AI to address global challenges.

  • Team members will receive $125 per month to assist with commuting or internet expenses.
