About the position:

Adalat AI is building cutting-edge AI solutions for courts and justice systems to end judicial delays and improve access to justice. We are developing pioneering products that assist judges, stenographers, and other legal professionals in Indian courts. We are looking for a talented Backend Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing APIs and web servers, ensuring the seamless integration and operation of various services.

Position overview:

• Collaborate closely with the founding team to productionize AI models that power our ASR solutions, legal copilot, and other innovative products.
• Innovate solutions addressing critical needs of our users, primarily judges and legal professionals in various Indian courts.
• Work alongside design, ML, and frontend teams to deliver comprehensive AI-driven solutions.
• Tackle complex engineering challenges on our platform.
• Build scalable and cost-effective systems.

Key responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain APIs for various applications.
• Build efficient and scalable web servers to support client-server communication.
• Collaborate with front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-sidelogic.
• Optimize existing systems for performance and reliability.
• Troubleshoot and debug issues as they arise.
• Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies and best practices in backend development.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• 1.5 to 3.5 years of industry work experience.
• Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to tackle challenges.
• Strong knowledge of databases such as SQL, NoSQL, Elasticsearch.
• Proficiency in writing and maintaining quality code (GoLang preferred).
• Hands-on experience with version control systems like Git.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Excellent organizational and analytical abilities.
• Understanding and experience in building distributed systems and familiarity with event-driven architecture (preferred).
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment (preferred).
• Familiarity with microservice architecture (preferred).
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines (preferred).
• Experience with automated test suites (pereferred).

What you will achieve in a year:

• Develop the backend for court systems in India, supporting over 1000 courtrooms operating 8-10 hours daily.
• Tackle significant technical challenges related to privacy and compliance, helping Adalat AI become the fastest-growing non-profit company in India.
• Build large-scale distributed systems to manage highly classified legal documents for court cases.
• Develop the ML infrastructure for a voice-first text editor, semantic search, and feedback loops for ML retraining.
