The results are game changing: Activate Fellows have launched 197 new companies since 2015. These companies have raised $4B in follow-on funding, created more than 2,800 U.S.-based jobs, and defined several new market categories. Activate supports fellows in Berkeley, CA; Cambridge, MA; New York, NY; Houston, TX; and across the U.S. through Activate Anywhere.

Position Summary

Our Boston team is looking for a new Fellowship Associate.

As Activate Boston's Fellowship Associate, you will support the operations of our fellowship including managing our office and in-person events, providing administrative support for our local team, and recording and communicating data. There will also be frequent opportunities to work independently on core parts of our fellowship. You will work closely with deep-tech science entrepreneurs throughout their two-year Activate fellowship as they build world-changing technologies in fields like climate tech, biomanufacturing, and aerospace.

Each Activate community is run by a three-person team:

  • The Managing Director is an experienced entrepreneur who leads the community and mentors the fellows.
  • The Fellowship Manager reports to the Managing Director and is responsible for the community's program and operations.
  • The Fellowship Associate (this role) reports to the Fellowship Manager and is responsible for the community's daily operations.

All three roles benefit from Activate's national peer group of individuals performing similar work in other communities. For the Fellowship Associate this means working closely with the leaders of fellowship operations and program optimization, as well as the other Fellowship Associates across our 5 communities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Events: Plan and execute Fellowship events including bi-weekly local programming, quarterly social activities, national educational programming, and large annual events.
  • Data and calendar management: Keep accurate fellowship records and support the national Fellowship Team in managing fellow data. Manage Boston’s community calendar and the Managing Director's individual calendar.
  • Office management: Manage the Activate Boston office: coordinate visitors, stock supplies, set up and break down in-office events, and maintain a welcoming environment.
  • Project Coordination: Support cross-functional projects. For example, scheduling and coordinating Fellow selection and onboarding.
  • Process improvement: Identify and act on opportunities for process improvement by analyzing your own work and learning from colleagues

The Ideal Candidate

  • Can demonstrate experience with project management, data management, or administrative duties.
  • Prioritize effectively to meet multiple deadlines on different timescales.
  • Get the details right and take pride in being organized and prepared.
  • Bring people together and find creative ways to build community.
  • Work to make an event successful from the initial idea to the last thank-you note.
  • Take the initiative to advance projects and improve processes
  • Build systems for smoother workflows.
  • Write and speak clearly and confidently
  • Can commit to supporting our fellows relentlessly because the technologies needed to solve global challenges depend on them
  • Love science and are ready to learn a lot of it
  • Are excited to grow within this role over multiple years

About the Role

This is a full-time position with a competitive salary range of $70,000-$75,000 with a generous benefits package that includes professional development, $2,000 in annual wellness funds, unlimited paid time off, healthcare premiums covered for employees and dependents at 90%, and the opportunity to join a retirement plan with a 3% match beginning after 3 months at Activate.
